Do/Design: Why Beauty Is Key to Everything. Alan Moore
With this book, designer Alan Moore invites us to rethink not only what we produce - whether it's a website, a handmade chair, or a business - but how and why. With examples from Apple, Yeo Valley and Blitz Motorcycles, we are encouraged to ask: Is it useful and considered? Is it a thing of beauty?
Absorbed in work, amid constant multitasking and frantic rhythms, we tend to mechanise the process of creation, depriving it of its aesthetic and value dimensions. Partly this is the temptation of rationalisation and simplification, since catching beauty and focusing on it requires additional strength and time, which we now usually lack. However, only by stopping and distancing ourselves from the work bustle, looking back at our developments with a gaze always ready to seek the new and the thorough, only in this way are we able to feel true uplift and renew our zeal.
This text aims to inspire readers to grow, improve their creative process, and shift their vision from product to experience. Categories of sincerity, usefulness, and simplicity are its axial principles; relying on them, a person — a creator by nature — is capable of implementing important, large-scale, and long-lasting things.
