The Best Book Design of 2020: Books by ist publishing Won Grand Prix and the First Place in Three Nominations

Three books by ist publishing won the competition The Best Book Design 2020. 

The Best Book Design is an annual competition, initiated by International Festival
The Book Arsenal in collaboration with Goethe-Institut in Ukraine and Frankfurt’s Book Fair. There were 160 applications this year.

Books by ist publishing - ZNAK. Ukrainian Trademarks 1960-1980, Creativity and Other Fundamentalisms and an inclusive comic book Blindman - won three out of five nominations.

ZNAK. Ukrainian Trademarks 1960-1980 of a design group U,N,A (Uliana Bychenkova, Nika Kydinova, Aliona Salomadina) was the first in the nomination AVisual Book and won a Grand Prix of the competition. The book is a research of Ukrainian graphic design and corporate identity during the "thraw", the era of stagnation and perestroika, in particular. The project was developed with the support of Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and Projector. 

The nomination A Book for Reading was given to Pascal Gielen’s Creativity and Other Fundamentalisms designed by Misha Buksha. A book of Belgium cultural sociologist is an 8-day journey between 1980 and 2010, where Gielen reviews the social context of creativity. The print was released sponsored by Flanders Literature and Andriy Bozhok.  

An inclusive comic book Blindman was named a winner in the nomination AnExperimentVolodymyr Gavrysh and Andriy Benytsky are the authors of the project. They have created a space where embossed forms and Braille tell a sensible story and immerse a one into an unusual for daily experience system of symbols. Dimensional images, created by embossment on paper, are combined with poetry printed in Braille. The project was organized by a philanthropic foundation Mystetskyi Arsenal with support from Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
